BOOK BY: Amanda Cabot
This is an interesting story that follows heiress Alexandra Tarkington and three suitors to Mesquite Springs in Texas.
Alexandra is fleeing an abusive man who wants to marry her for her money. She travels to Mesquite Springs where her estranged father lives, and is followed by three men interested in securing Alexandra for their own devices.
This novel is rich in location and character descriptions, making it easy for the reader to imagine oneself in Texas, in the 1800s. The story moves along never stopping long in one scene or another. However, in the beginning it was a bit confusing as so many characters were introduced at once. But each character had their own personality and ambitions, making it easier to figure things out as the story progressed.
Despite this novel being the third in a series, it reads well as a stand-alone. I haven’t read the other two books and found that it made no difference.
I received a copy of the book from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions expressed are my own.
