Interview and Book Giveaway with Carolyn Miller

Yesterday I shared with you how much I LOVED the latest regency romance by author Carolyn Miller. Today, I’m thrilled to have her joining us on the blog! She’s been busy promoting Dawn’s Untrodden Green, so I’m honored she’s taking the time to stop by Brodeur Writes. AND she’s graciously offering a giveaway to one reader!!

About the Book

Not much happens in Theodosia Stapleton’s tiny Northumberland village. Certainly not to her. She has resigned herself to spinsterhood, caring for her ailing mother in the home of her grandfather, known to the locals as “General Contrary.” When her dear friend dies and leaves behind a daughter, it’s simple enough to take the child into her own quiet world. That is, until her ward’s famous uncle unexpectedly arrives and throws Theo’s tidy orbit completely off-kilter.

Fame was the last thing Daniel Balfour sought when he fought in the Peninsular War. But his brave exploits caught the attention of the King, and now the honors he was given hound him everywhere . . . even on his rushed trip to rescue his orphaned niece.

Theo’s quick wit and warm smile reassure him that Rebecca is in good hands, and he finds himself free to swiftly return to London and his responsibilities. But those caring hands are beginning to look like they could also safely hold his heart, and he’s tempted to linger. Unfortunately, marriage is simply not in the cards; the army is spouse enough for him.

Then an accident and a scandal lead both Theo and Daniel to discover that their best-laid plans may not have been what God designed for them after all.

An element of research for Dawn’s Untrodden Green:

A few years ago I wrote a book about the aftermath of a Regency-era elopement. It was fun to use some of that research and incorporate it into this book, but instead of basing it on the famous village of Gretna Green I used the Scottish border town of Coldstream. Coldstream is also famous for its brave soldiers (the Coldstream Guards) which suited my story, which sees the arrival in the area of a much-decorated war hero. Researching elopements was fascinating, and the history books tell us that Coldstream saw a number of high profile elopements, including several Lord Chancellors. One of the humorous resources I found was Borders Ancestry, which included tales of couple who married in this hasty way, some of which I was able to incorporate into Dawn’s Untrodden Green. I’ve recently visited this part of the world and have pictures on my website and Facebook page. So much fun to find out about!

GIVEAWAY

In addition to writing historical, I also write contemporary books, including a couple of series (The Original Six and Muskoka Romance) which sees relatable heroines on their quests to finding love. I had fun writing The Breakup Project, the first book of the Original Six, and developing a heroine who loves historical dramas, and is a huge fan of Pride and Prejudice’s Mr. Darcy and Gilbert Blythe from Anne of Green Gables. The only trouble is that living with such high (& unrealistic?) expectations for a swoonworthy hero can make it a tad hard to see the equally worthy faithful man next door who’d do anything to move this relationship from the friend zone into something more. It was so much fun to create a heroine I think many of us can relate to. So in order to win an ebook copy of The Breakup Project, I’d love for you to list your top five qualities you like to read about in a hero. (And no, handsome doesn’t count).

I’d love for you to visit my website where you can find pictures and information about places I’ve visited and used as story inspiration, as well as extra behind-the-scenes details, including A Day Trip to Bath, and My Scottish Adventure. If you sign up for my newsletter here you’ll get a free book!

Happy reading to you!
